I'm a Teacher, Not a Baby SitterIn 2007, Stuart partnered with the Wisconsin Early Childhood Association (WECA) to create a unique project based on documenting the work of teachers in the field of early childhood. Stuart collected stories and wrote songs about this vital yet often unnoticed profession, and created a 45-minute performance that includes diverse perspectives on working with young children. Some titles include: Powerless Children Need Powerful Friends, It's About the Money, When It's Quiet in the Infant Room, and the title song, I'm a Teacher, Not a Babysitter.
In this photo, Stuart leads a chorus of providers in a keynote finale of songs about child care. For more information click here. Stuart's new video Powerful Friends is the first song to be released from this project. You can find it on YouTube. The performance has drawn rave reviews from professionals in the field. It offers an opportunity to grapple with the complex questions inherent in the field. The performance is thoughtful, poignant, funny, and ultimately uplifting.
